Haker’s photograph of the inside of an abandoned Italian palazzo presents a romantic image of a world that once was. Stunningly intact frescoed ceilings of a winged Cupid and cherub angels dominate the photograph. The exquisite artistry of the walls, resplendent in hand-painted floral patterns evokes the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods.

In this photograph, a small town perches on the water’s edge in Arctic Norway’s Lofoten Islands. Composed to emphasise the relationship between sea and the small town. Seen against the sprawling urbanisation of major cities, this image reinforces the power of nature.

In ancient Rome, a wild rose was placed on the door to a room where confidential matters were being discussed. This shot was taken in Lossenham Manor, Newenden, Kent, UK.

This shot was taken from a helicopter in April 2012. The resulting, almost Turnersque image, with London shrouded in the clouds, is an old master in a modern medium.

First conceived for Mike Wilks’ book The Weather Works, this wonderful illustration takes a fanciful look at what if we humans generated the weather of mist and fog. The detail to Wilks’ vision is stunning, we have pully systems and pipes, elegant onlookers and gas-mask clad workers. The nuts, bolts and wheels of the operation pump out a light veil of mist and fog. Mike’s paintings have a dreamlike quality to them due to their creativity and surreal visions. Above the scene, Wilks draws frescos and the starry night sky.

Almost surreal in its ethereality, this photograph of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, The Northern Lights, was taken in the Rocky Mountains. The photograph is composed to enhance the feeling that the land is being drawn upwards. This gives the piece an almost metaphysical quality.

This unique image is baffling to the first view, Saito has captured the orbit of the earth as depicted by the stars. The stunning concentric circles that whizz around each other highlight the movement of the world even when we appreciate a still view. This kaleidoscopic photograph is a blur of purples, pinks and deep deep blues- highlighting the beauty of the nighttime sky.

This exotic image of Eastern culture transports us to an idyllic and peaceful environment. Looking up, we see the ornate roofing of a Buddhist temple set against the sky. There is a stillness to the temple, set against the blurry clouds, that speaks to its metaphysical nature and timelessness.
