“The principles of true art is not to portray but to evoke.”
– Jerzy Kosiński
EVOKE

THE KING – PAUL MELLIA
Now one of the fastest-selling artists in today’s contemporary art scene, Paul is renowned for his distinctive 3-D interpretations of celebrated icons. Straddling the delicate line between visual art and popular culture, his work is neither illustrative or photographic but standing between the two – verging on fantasy.
3 AM – WHITE & BERGMAN
Dominic White and Nicole Bergman have been working together on a collaborative basis since 2014. They specialise in fine art photography. Their work is a visual reflection of the world we live in. “We’re fascinated by life’s journey. What starts out as hope so often becomes overpowered by temptations and vices, power and corruption. We are driven to depict this poignant essence that is inherent in the human condition.” 3am captures the atmosphere of this message taken in New York in 2015.
MODEL DRIVING PALM SPRINGS – DANIELA FEDERICI
The idea behind ‘Model Driving Through Palm Spring’ was to recreate a cinematic editorial for LA Confidential with a series of images that reflected the ambience of a 1950’s thriller. Referencing famed Hollywood stills from Starsky and Hutch to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the mysterious model cruises through an arid landscape at dusk. Her seductive stare casts her as a femme fatale, leaving us unsure of her motives or her destination.
ABSTRACT 131 – MO TUNCAY
Self-taught artist Mo Tuncay enjoys the freedom of abstract painting influenced by the work of Willem de Kooning and Richard Diebenkorn. He believes this allows for greater creativity, as he starts with a blank canvas with no end result in mind. In this piece, Tuncay roughly paints vertical stripes of burnt orange and red, that resemble the sails of a boat.
VULVE 4 – SANDERS NICOLSON
Shrouded in semi-abstraction, this erotic photography transfers Nicolson’s exploration in floral photography onto the human body. Former top fashion and beauty photographer, Sanders Nicolson, winner of the prestigious AFAEP Gold award, turned his back on the advertising world when he moved to the Scottish Borders. Liberated, he developed a freer, ethnic influenced style, which allowed him to explore his creativity.
THREE IN A BOAT – JACQUES PION
The river Rhône is a stunning location for fishing. Since the crack of dawn, the fishermen have been in their boat, silent and motionless, waiting for the right moment to catch the elusive Pike. Pion captures this scene in the soft cold glow of mid-winter, as the trees remain naked without leaves and a low fog shrouds the mid-distance.
ROUGH – MATTHIAS HAKER
In ‘Rough’, Haker masters the technique of long-exposure to juxtaposes the jagged rocks against the soft fog of the sea. An impending dark sky lingers over the scene giving the monochrome work a dramatic, theatrical quality. Much of Haker’s work attempts to express the effects of movement and time on the natural world, allowing us to view calming yet brooding images which reconnect us with the forces of nature.
