FLYING SOLO

BEACH BROLLY – STUART HAMILTON

This high style monochrome photo of a beach canopy looking out to the sea captures a moment everyone dreams for when thinking of holidays in the sun. The realism of the image almost transports the viewer to the beaming heat of the mid-summer Mediterranean.

SHAMBHU – ERIC RICHMOND

Capturing the athleticism and grace of the dancer as she moves forward, Eric grants us a magical insight into the world of contemporary dance.

THE MOON – SHUMON SAITO

This extraordinary shot of the Moon almost transports the viewer to its surface. Resplendent in all its detail, the close-up suggests an intimacy that normally associated with views of the faraway moon. Using superb camera equipment, excellent technical knowledge and a steady hand, Saito captures every ‘hill and valley’ of the Moon’s surface.

CAR IN PARKING LOT AT NIGHT – DAVID YEO

Shot in Florida in 2004 with just the light from the car park lamp on the wall, this image reverberates orange and gold. As David Yeo mentions “the angular saloon car sits easily amongst the expanse of golden-orange coloured concrete both on the wall and the ground. The only break being the green bushes either side of the car.”

RAF TAILWIND – JASPER DALGLIESH

As a former officer with the Household Cavalry Regiment, Dalgliesh also photographs the RAF in practice.

CELINE DION – DANIELA FEDERICI

This glamorous shot of the singer, Celine Dion, posing through the archway of a door captures the moment she walks out on stage, yet in a humbly domestic setting. As much an image of the imagination as one of reality, it presents both an insight into the mind of the singer and a rare perspective of her looking out from the sphere of the private to the glare of the public. Shot in silhouette, Federici artfully captures Dion’s graceful curves.

AYRTON SENNA F1 – LEO MASON

In 1986, sporting history was made. For this is the first time ever a remote camera rig, designed by legendary sports photographer Leo Mason, was attached to an F1 car. The image is of the late great Ayrton Senna turning the steering wheel in his Marlboro McLaren. The long exposure highlighting the sheer volume of steering he has done.

SYLVIA UNDRESSED – JAMIE LUNDY

A playful Sylvia by the pool. One can imagine this being taken at a swanky party by the pool of a Mediterranean villa. Wearing a top hat and dress-style trousers, and little else, perhaps discarded by someone in the pool, how the imagination is teased.
