” The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.”

– Friedrich Nietzsche

GRATITUDE

FERN – JASPER DALGLIESH

The fern flower brings luck, wealth, or the ability to understand animal speech. In Slavic folklore, ferns are believed to bloom once a year, during the Ivan Kupala night. Although alleged to be exceedingly difficult to find, anyone who sees a “fern flower” is thought to be guaranteed to be happy and rich for the rest of their life. This shot was taken in Longstock Gardens, Stockbridge, Hampshire, UK.

11.27 MARILYN MONROE – ANDY WARHOL

The Marilyn Monroe series is arguably Warhol’s most recognized portfolio. Fascinated by her fame, Warhol used Marilyn Monroe as one of his earliest muses.

TWIGGY – TERRY FINCHER

Terry Fincher is renowned for his war photography, having covered, among others, the Suez crisis, five tours in Vietnam and the Six-Day War. This classic and award-winning portrait of Twiggy was shot in 1966.

TEMPTATION FASHION – DAVID YEO

Shot in Florida in 2004 using natural light, David Yeo recounts “this shop was impossible to ignore with its bold red sign conspicuously burning into the black background. It grabs the attention of those passing by, but the contrived mannequins and their silky designs are closed to business for now.”

THE SHARD – HOWARD KINGSNORTH

The Shard, Europe’s tallest building, was officially opened with a laser show in central London in July 2012. Here Howard has framed the laser-lit Shard with the multi-reflections of glass and steel and lights for a striking image.

DOLOR – ANNA HIGGIE

Reminiscent of Bridget Riley and M.C Eshcer, this kaleidoscopic portrait is part psychedelic, part pure elegance. With clients like Penguin, The Guardian and Bloomingdales under her belt and a folio that spans from high fashion to editorial work, it’s her uniqueness of vision which makes her stand out from the crowd.

BLACK DANCER 1 – BRONWYN KIDD

Bronwyn Kidd’s photography is characterised by her dedication to elegance and precision. Her work maximises the utility of the camera and has a strong emphasis on the brilliance of creating light and shown in the black dancer series.

THE PRINCESS – PAUL MELLIA

Now one of the fastest-selling artists in today’s contemporary art scene, Paul is renowned for his distinctive 3-D interpretations of celebrated icons. Straddling the delicate line between visual art and popular culture, his work is neither illustrative or photographic but standing between the two – verging on fantasy.

YOU SEE ME YESTERDAY – PATRICK BUTLER

So many aspects – but you are all there.

BEACH EXERCISE – JAMIE LUNDY
