Cruising from Behind
A rare pre-1985 original vintage print produced in limited numbers from a series of transparencies that Newton considered his most provocative and important work through 1985.
Description
Newton loved the romanticism of the water and spent much of his career in Monte Carlo. 'Cruising from behind' shows Newton at his overtly sexual best. Playing on the hierarchies between Captain and sailor, Newton creates sexually unabashed imagery heighted by the fantasy of the sea.
"Some people's photography is an art. Not mine. Art is a dirty word in photography. All this fine art crap is killing it already."
Helmut Newton
