Hollywood 1976 (Cadillac in Garage)
A rare pre-1985 original vintage print produced in limited numbers from a series of transparencies that Newton considered his most provocative and important work through 1985.
Description
In 'Hollywood 1976 Cadillac in Garage', Newton plays on the idea of parking multiple cars in your garage. Channelling the twin boyhood desires of girls and cars, there is a sense of seduction and danger to both as they come towards you. Newton was to use cars as a prop for his work throughout his career, collecting them himself. Having driven as a truck driver and mechanic for the Australian Army during the war, they were large part of his life. The Cadillac featured in this image was Newton's own.
"My job as a portrait photographer is to seduce, amuse and entertain."
