Le Cadre Noir de Saumur
A rare pre-1985 original vintage print produced in limited numbers from a series of transparencies that Newton considered his most provocative and important work through 1985.
Description
In 'Le Cadre Noir de Saumur', Helmut Newton is at his candid best, creating suggestive narratives that play on the imagination of the voyeur. Taken at France's military riding ground Le Cadre Noir, one of the most prestigious riding schools in the world, Newton's fun imagination and revolutionary use of location comes to the fore. Newton's interest in established dialogues of dominance and the male gaze is also well articulated - here added to - almost comically - by the heads of the horses.
"Growing up, I was surrounded by Nazi imagery, like everybody in Germany, and for a boy obsessed with photography it left an indelible impression on me."
Helmut Newton
