Model in Fur with Bear
A rare pre-1985 original vintage print produced in limited numbers from a series of transparencies that Newton considered his most provocative and important work through 1985.
Description
In 'Model in fur with Bear', Newton is at his confrontational best, provocatively placing a bear next to a model resplendent in fur. Newton charges this animalistic image with hierarchies of gender, placing a bear as substitute for her male counterpart. This image was pictured on the front of one of his major books, World without Men, and is counted as one of Newton's most powerful images.
"The point of my photography has always been to challenge myself, to go a little further than my Germanic discipline and Teutonic nature would traditionally permit me to."
