Description

There is perhaps no better image to exemplify the profound affect the iconic Hungarian photographer, Brassai had on the work Helmut Newton. 'Winnie in Negresco' draws almost identically from Brassai's images of call-girls taken in 1930's Paris as part of his celebrated series 'Secret Paris in the 30's'. Charmed by Brassai's conception of nocturnal Paris, Newton took up his principles of night-time photography - in particular the motif of lady leaning over the balcony. Yet in typical Newton fashion, the model's luxurious fur coat adds a touch of sophisticated eroticism to the image.

"You should feel that, under the right conditions, all women would be available."
