“A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.”

DANCING WITH DISABILITY 1 – MIA COLLIS

In Kenya disability is a taboo and the majority of people who are differently-abled are hidden from society.PAMOJA (meaning together in Swahili) is a multi-abled and disabled professional dance group in Nairobi. The contradictions that embody the lives of the dancers is fascinating. Hidden from daily life and revealed on stage. Shunned by society and loved by the audience. Most individuals in the group were born and grew up into a life of serious adversity, and yet many, as a testimonial to their strength of character, are now the breadwinners of their families.

LADY OF LONDOLOZI – LUCINDA COLDREY

Inspired by the immense power and absolute tranquillity of the leopard in her environment.

FLOWERS 11.70 – ANDY WARHOL

Originally first published in 1970 and based on a photograph by nature photographer Patricia Caulfield, Andy Warhol made prints of the Mandrinette flower with each print featuring the bloom’s petals in various colours. The Mandrinette flower is an extremely rare native shrub found on the mountains of Mauritius, an island off the southeast coast of Africa.

WALKIE TALKIE TOWER – DIANA BUZOIANU
ANTELOPE CANYON, AZ – JASPER DALGLIESH

Dalgliesh’s magnificent photograph depicts Antelope Canyon, which is a slot canyon carved out by the same waters that flowed into the Colorado River and carved the Grand Canyon. The Antelope Canyon walls have been carved into what looks like fluid-rock. Water from above Antelope Canyon travels through cracks and caverns in the sandstone until it builds up significant speed near Antelope Canyon. As the floodwater rushes and spirals through the present formations, the water continually sands and reshapes the walls into masterpieces.

THE LONG WAY UP – MATTHIAS HAKER

Part of Haker’s exploration of the world’s staircases, here he turns to a view through an abandoned Victorian stairwell reaching up to many floors to a beautifully stuccoed ceiling. Warm beiges and richer reds spiral together to present an image of romantic charm set in a bygone era.

KAKTUS 3 – SANDERS NICOLSON

Presented as if a scientific specimen, Nicolson grants us a glimpse of a Kaktus in its infancy. We are struck by its stunning array of colours, that bleed out in this image. Printed on thick paper, the colours run from the photograph using a special ink that softly blots on the page.

THE AMERICAN FALLS – DARWIN WIGGETT

The American Falls is one of three waterfalls that together are known as Niagara Falls. Unlike the much larger Horseshoe Falls, of which two-thirds of the falls is located in Ontario, Canada, and one-third in the state of New York, the American Falls is entirely within the United States. In this photograph, Darwin captures the falls in all its chromatic majesty. The flow of water gives way to greens normally associated with the Northern Lights, all this is set against the royal purple of the dusk sky.

NEW YORK SKYSCRAPERS 3 – ASHTON KEIDITSCH

Many of the world’s greatest photographers have turned their hand to the New York skyline as seen from below. Keiditsch captures the towering giants in a photograph that emphasises their abstract form and negative space as much as it does their height.

ORANGE BEAUTY – PAUL MELLIA

Now one of the fastest-selling artists in today’s contemporary art scene, Paul is renowned for his distinctive 3-D interpretations of celebrated icons. Straddling the delicate line between visual art and popular culture, his work is neither illustrative or photographic but standing between the two – verging on fantasy.
