Artist of the week, SIMON SPILSBURY
is a champion of quirky, humorous sketches that can only be described as impulsive and energetic.
With a background in advertising that helped him win the art of quick sketches, Spilsbury became fluent in all media requirements whether national press, glossy magazine features or a multi-media campaign. He boasts an envious client list including Nike, Virgin, DHL, Waterstones, The Sunday Times, and The Guardian to name a few and his work as also won numerous awards. These include British Illustration Gold, D&AD Silver, Communication Arts, Print Magazine, Illustration Now and most recently The Hidden Art of Illustrators, Creatives & Designer.
Our favourite pieces depict the scratchy, hellish metropolis life with wit and charm as cars pile themselves up and planes block out the sky, welcome to the urban metropolis, a ‘City Hell’ in the words of Spilsbury. Whereas his more comical images of Mickey Mouse mock social issues surrounding plastic surgery and the iconic face of Walt Disney.
His jam-packed illustrations are known to capture chaotic urban landscapes and social issues with an entertaining twist.
Spilsbury is another member of our growing illustration artists alongside Jonny Wan and Anna Higgie. He is certainly one to watch out for!
