SOMETHING BLUE

With a fascination for all things ancient, Jonny turns his hand on the natural world. His unusual illustration of a tiger is crafted out of an aqua blue not the familiar orange and black. In many ways, the work draws on Jonny’s work re-imagining the illustrations that adorn packs of cards.

From rainbows and Romans to rockweilers and reindeer, The Letter R is a circus of items beginning with R. Originally conceived to illustrate his ‘The Ultimate Alphabet’ book, Wilks’ shows his mastery of the illustrated form, creating his own fantastical, surreal language.

David King Reuben was born in London and graduated from Hampstead School of Fine Art. He is a New York-based artist who works across painting and mixed media.

Now in his late 50s, Paul Mellia has established a reputation over the last 30 years as a super-realist artist, specialising in detailed illustrations of themes from popular culture – film stars, sports cars and motorbikes, comic book characters and superheroes.

This amazing long exposure shot of the night train in Osaka, Japan, evokes early memories of ghost trains. Working in black and white with a hint of blue, the work is imbued with a timeless feel.

Taken at Horseshoe Lake in Jasper National Park, Darwin captures the abstract beauty of the lake’s surface as it rushes past him. The photograph has an almost painterly quality as he expertly captures the animated frothing of the surf set against the deep blue water.

Modern life going past British history.

Nicolson expertly captures the soft blue tones of a flower in this semi-abstract close up. Liberated, he developed a freer, ethnic influenced style, beautifully illustrated in his “Maske” and “Edges” series.

Paul’s studio in the Hollywood Hills in LA was next to a classic car garage, and the owners of these magnificent cars and bikes would often pop in to the studio and became friends. This in turn led to many private commissions where the owners would ask Paul to recreate their pride and joy, such as this early 60’s Plymouth.
