SPARKLE

During a photography trip to southern Iceland, we stopped on the main road along the coast to enjoy the stunning sunset across this magical landscape. The quality and colours of the light are incredible and I wanted to capture something of that with this simple, symmetrical image.

Eric specialises in dance and performing arts photography and here he takes the subject of Indian dance. Made famous by Bollywood, the dancer is surrounded by an almost celestial sphere of colour as she jumps into the air. The work highlights the religious aspect of Indian dance as she launches fine coloured dust into the air.

In this shot of Table Rock in Niagara Falls, Darwin displays his powers as a landscape photographer. He has captured the water falling using a long exposure, the effect is as if you are standing on the edge. In the distance, a bright sun partially breaks through the clouds while fog gets trapped below. The effect is one of pure exhilaration that highlights the romanticism of nature.

This distinctive shot of the iconic New York skyline shot just after dusk captures the transforming moments of a city transitioning from day to night.

A delicate photograph of a rain-drenched rose.

Eerily still and quiet, this photograph of the Golden Gate Bridge was taken as the city slept. Taken from the vantage point of the bridge looking back into the city, Wada’s image is almost surreal. The posts in the foreground could well be the foundations for an original bridge, giving way to comparisons between the two- the then and the now.

A metropolitan image that evokes the fast, constant life of one of the greatest cities on earth, Saito captures this moment on the iconic Bay Bridge. One of the longest spanning bridges in the entire USA, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, carries over 240,000 vehicles a day on its two decks, entirely absent from this early sunrise picture.

A photographic equivalent of a Turner or Twombly, this image of London’s nightlights reflecting off the Thames has something of the metaphysical quality aimed for by the abstract expressionists.

An up-close, picturesque and delicate image of a dandelion.

A stunning beauty photograph by award-winning Bronwyn Kidd. Detail and form are shown in this brilliant portrait creating light and intrigue for the viewer.
