A riot of pinks, purples and blues come together in this enigmatic portrayal of a semi-abstracted flower. In close-up, Nicolson has masters the ability of transforming photography into something more artistic as a medium- in this case, the work resembles a watercolour.

This digitally remastered image evokes a sense of continues movement and narrative as the dancer becomes smaller and smaller. A riot of colours- reds, yellows, purples and greens, it reflects the vibrancy of contemporary African dance.

The Rose Garden symbolises the beautiful but difficult and thorny path through childhood. The silhouettes of three young children are overlayed on top an abstracted conception of a rose garden. The effect is surreal and dream-like as if you are staring at a foggy memory in your mind’s eye.

Born in Milan and now living in the lush surroundings of Sardinia, Alberto was first drawn to image-making by a fascination for record sleeves and skate decks. Now a prolific illustrator and photographer he works with agencies across the globe.

Set in a large room, you will slowly notice that each item, character or object begins with the letter P. We have a painter (a self-portrait perhaps?), propeller, pepper, pineapple and playing cards….the list goes on. Wilks shows how indebted he is to surrealists such as Dali and De Chirico in his fantastical composition of disparate objects.

High in energy and captured in boldly warm colours, ‘Sketch’ brings to the fore Grimwood’s interest in fashion illustration. Grimwood’s abstract portrait of this woman, with bright red hair and loose pink flick for a nose, reflects the expressive colour and form of great painters such as Matisse and Picasso. Grimwood exemplifies a sharp eye for visual puns to communicate simply and directly.

Originally first published in 1970 and based on a photograph by nature photographer Patricia Caulfield, Andy Warhol made prints of the Mandrinette flower with each print featuring the bloom’s petals in various colours.
