HARMONY

BREAKING DAWN – YOSHIHIKO WADA

Taken from the vantage point of the bridge looking back into the city, Wada’s image is almost surreal. The posts in the foreground could well be the foundations for an original bridge, giving way to comparisons between the two- the then and the now.

DEAD END – MATTHIAS HAKER

A sense of journey to the unknown pervades this image of a pier reaching out into the sea. Haker creates a symmetrical composition with water and sand lying either side of the wooden structure- drawing the viewer into the photograph as if they could step out onto the beach.

DUNE X – TIM HALL

A semi-abstract appreciation of the forms inherent in sand dunes is the focus of this photograph. Much like the work of Bill Brandt creating abstracted images in and around the beach, Hall creates a stimulating composition around the elegant curves of the dunes.

SUSPENDED – HAMISH ROOTS

This beautiful shot of Bristol Suspension Bridge evokes a sense of mystery as it disappears into the fog. Evoking the style of Berenice Abbot and other iconic early American architectural photographers, this black and white photograph seems to almost float as its disassociated from its structure.

APACHE ATTACK – JASPER DALGLIESH

A sight guaranteed to put the fear of God into the Taliban, but fortunately for them, these three RAF Apache Attack helicopters are returning from a training exercise.

THE LONG WAY UP – MATTHIAS HAKER

Part of Haker’s exploration of the world’s staircases, here he turns to a view through an abandoned Victorian stairwell reaching up many floors to a beautifully stuccoed ceiling. Warm beiges and richer reds spiral together to present an image of romantic charm set in a bygone era.

RACING CYCLISTS – LEO MASON

The 2018 AJ Bell Triathlon at The Excel Centre London. Inspired by my experimental drone photography but shot on a digital camera from a high rise building overlooking the road racing circuit in docklands. A 400mm telephoto lens was mounted sideways to produce a landscape image to highlight the shadows of the cyclists.

SPIRAL – SHUMON SAITO

From Shumon’s Spiral series, this classic staircase photo reminds us of dizzy fairground rides. Rotating in an almost kaleidoscopic fashion, the form of the stairwell echoes shells and other natural forms.

COLUMNS – HAMISH ROOTS

A classical view to the Grand Canal in Venice through the columns of the Doge’s Palace in the Piazza San Marco, Roots treats us to a quintessential sight of the romantic Venice.

ELKWATER LAKE – DARWIN WIGGETT

Taken in Elkwater Lake in Alberta, Darwin displays his eye for composition. In this photo, he has matched the curve of the impending weather front above with the path of the wooden walkway, drawing our eye into the photo. The landscape is a sea of autumnal colours, burnt oranges meet rusty browns and inky blues.
