Bad Taste
As Johnny Thornton recounts, "This all revolved around Richard Sharah who was 'a make-up artists' in the real sense of the words. He became known for Zandra Rhodes posters in the 1970s and The Blitz Kids. Richard went on to do make up for David Bowie, Dire Straits, Marvin Gaye and Steve Strange and is perhaps best known for David Bowie's make up as Pierrot. Richard was outrageous and gay. I recall he had this huge tongue that could protrude to an amazing length out of his mouth. Then he would say 'Imagine where this was last night'. The S & M thought of shoe licking came to mind which I wanted to portray in a simple graphic form. I have said in the past, 'Bad Taste is it in Bad Taste or does it have a Bad Taste?' It depends upon your point of view!"
"Frankly, I find having a vice so terribly nice."
