“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow .”

– Albert Einstein

LEARN, LIVE, HOPE

SPOT – TAL PAZ-FRIDMAN
COTE DAZUR – TIM HALL

Drawing from the work of Hiroshi Sugimoto, Hall captures the sea in all its vast, empty glory. It’s an image that restores a meditative calm to the eye of the viewer, reconnecting us with the expanse of the world at a time when it seems most suffocating. Shot at the low sun, sunlight ripples across the ocean surface, blurry the boundaries between sea and sky.

THREE IN A BOAT – JACQUES PION

The river Rhône is a stunning location for fishing. Since the crack of dawn, the fishermen have been in their boat, silent and motionless, waiting for the right moment to catch the elusive Pike. Pion captures this scene in the soft cold glow of mid-winter, as the trees remain naked without leaves and a low fog shrouds the mid-distance.

NORWEGIAN SUNRISE – HAMISH ROOTS

An image of time as much as nature, its slowly become apparent that the morning has yet to wake where Roots is standing- as it is still shrouded in shadow.

LET THERE BE LIGHT – MATTHIAS HAKER

This cavernous photograph by Matthias Hakker of art nouveau architecture mixes monochrome with flashes of yellow. Gothic-inspired, Haker’s symmetrical composition spotlights the stucco detailing of the ceiling in a warm, yellow light.

TIME AND SHADOW – YOSHIHIKO WADA

A beautifully constructed image of a Tadao Ando building in Osaka, Japan focusing on the sundial and its shadows. As Wada notes, “The simplicity of Ando’s architecture is heavily influenced by Japanese Zen, which emphasizes concentration and meditation, and gives insight into one’s true nature.”

MOUNTAINS – STUART HAMILTON

Focusing on the jagged silhouettes on the mountains, Hamilton shows us what looks like an almost prehistoric landscape, stunningly dramatic yet utterly inhospitable. One wonders what Hamilton had to do to achieve this majestic shot which, in its extremity, adds to the work’s mystery and allure.

ORANGE AND BLUE – MATT FREESTONE

This is among my favourite images from my 2015 trip to Iceland. Sunrise at just gone 8.11 AM over the famous ‘ice beach’ at Jökulsárlón. The way the light plays through crystal clear and blue opaque glacial ice is incredible, as well as that stunning mix of orange and blue – hence the title.

LONDON CITY LOOKING SOUTH – HOWARD KINGSNORTH

Looking South from Broadgate Tower, Howard has accentuated the glass, concrete and steel that is the City of London. Shot in 2011.

ROSE 3 – JASPER DALGLIESH

Each colour offers a distinct meaning: red, the lover’s rose, signifies enduring passion; white, humility and innocence; yellow, expressing friendship and joy; pink, gratitude, appreciation and admiration; orange, enthusiasm and desire; white lilac and purple roses represent enchantment and love at first sight.
