Orchid 2

Orchid 2

White orchids represent innocence and purity. The word Orchid is derived from the Greek word orchis which means testicle, after the appearance of the roots of plants of the genus Orchis. In classical mythology, Orchis, the son of a satyr and a nymph, was turned into a flower after his death.

The largest orchid in the world can grow up to 20 metres tall. Orchids come in many different colours, the one colour you’ll never see an orchid in is blue.

This shot was taken in London, UK.

Peony

Peony

Peony flowers are perennials that come back every spring to take your breath away. The plants may live longer than you do—some have been known to thrive for 100 years.

Peony plants require little maintenance as long as they are planted properly and establish themselves; they do not respond well to transplanting. Peony or Paeony is a flowering plant in the genus Paeonia, the only genus in the family Paeoniaceae. They are native to Asia, Europe and Western North America.

Rose 1

Rose 1

Most rose species are native to Asia, with smaller numbers native to Europe, North America, and northwestern Africa. Roses are widely grown for their beauty and often are fragrant and have acquired cultural significance in many societies.

In ancient Rome, a wild rose was placed on the door to a room where confidential matters were being discussed.

The oldest fossilized imprint of the rose was left on a slate deposit found in Florissant, Colorado, and is estimated to be 35 million years old. It is therefore fitting that President Ronald Reagan signed legislation in 1987 that made the rose the United State's National Floral Emblem. June is National Rose Month in the United States.

Roses are best known as ornamental plants grown for their flowers in the garden and sometimes indoors.

Each color offers a distinct meaning: red, the lover's rose, signifies enduring passion; white, humility and innocence; yellow, expressing friendship and joy; pink, gratitude, appreciation and admiration; orange, enthusiasm and desire; white lilac and purple roses represent enchantment and love at first sight.

Rose 4

During the fifteenth century, the rose was used as a symbol for the factions fighting to control England. The white rose symbolized York, and the red rose symbolized Lancaster, as a result, the conflict became known as the "War of the Roses."

A white rose symbolizes purity, innocence, silence, secrecy, reverence, humility, and youthfulness, while red roses symbolizes love, beauty, courage and respect, passion and unconscious beauty.
