La Vita Dita

In the beginning, Heather Renee Sweet's stage name was just Dita, and she modeled for the main magazine starting in 1997. In December 2002, she landed her first PLAYBOY cover and full feature. The editors thought she ought to have a last name — she looked up Von Treese in the phonebook, which was later misspelled Von Teese. A star was born.

It would take a tough man to match the force majeur that is Dita Von Teese, but she found a kindred spirit in Goth rocker Marilyn Manson (nee Brian Warner). It turned out Manson was pretty handy with a camera, so the editors let him have a hand at photographing part of Dita's pictorial. In her black gloves and stockings, next to a lovely peacock, Dita is standing miles away from that white cotton bra.
