Roses are red, violets are blue, life is full of colours, you'll love these artworks too.
Rainbow
VERMILION LAKE – DARWIN WIGGETT
The blue haze of the mountain landscape contrasts wonderfully with the yellows and pinks of the sunfilled sky.
ORANGE ONLY – MATT FREESTONE
This image was shot five minutes after sunrise along the southern Iceland coast and I chose to process this photograph as a monochrome black and white with the selective orange from the sunlight. I love the darkness of the dawn sky and the individual starbursts of light caught in the ice.
WHITE TURF – LEO MASON
Unusually for conservative Switzerland, it hosts one of the most dangerous equestrian events in the world, the annual snow horse racing meetings. This one is held on St. Moritz lake and centres on the jostling of two horse fighting for position. One can see the thoroughbred’s majestic muscles and their hooves flick up clumps of earth.
BLUE SYMPHONY – SIMONA ARU
This image is a part of a body of work called “LIGHT”.
The light brings out a presence or an absence. Simona Aru filters the reality, in this series of pictures, leaving the viewer the choice to follow the only point of light and to investigate further or go beyond the transparency of shadows.
PURPLE THAMES – TIM HALL
This image of London’s nightlights reflecting off the Thames is almost abstract expressionist in its quality. The scattered purple reflections gives the photograph a painterly feel.
RED WOMAN – BRIAN GRIMWOOD
In many ways drawing on the aesthetic of Chris Ofili, Grimwood’s exotic conception of an African woman looking both forward and in profile recalls the Cubists in style. The illustration is a riot of heady colours set against a deep black background that excites the eye.
MARILYN MONROE IN A BLACK DERBY AND NOT MUCH ELSE – MILTON GREENE
From the “Black Sitting” series, New York, 1956
BLACK DANCER 1 – BRONWYN KIDD
Bronwyn Kidd’s photography is characterised by her dedication to elegance and precision. Her work maximises the utility of the camera and has a strong emphasis on the brilliance of creating light and shown in the black dancer series.
GREEN SHADOW – YOSHIHIKO WADA
Using his own light or the light of the moon, Wada captures the murky green of the bamboo trees as they appear out from the depth of the night. One can almost hear the bamboo trees eerily swaying in the trees and the rustle of animal life and birds against the stillness of the night.
