“I shut my eyes in order to see.”

VISION
THE LETTER G – MIKE WILKS
Originally made for his book ‘The Ultimate Alphabet’, The Letter G contains hundred of items beginning with the letter G. Grizzly bears and giraffes stand next to gas masks and guitars. Indicative of Wilks’ frantic, complex and narrative pictorial style, Wilks’ packs so much visual information into the storyboard, we will always find something new.
CHELLARKOVIL – JAKE POLONSKY
Composed around a single tree, this photograph has the feeling of being shot in a pre-historic age. The sapling can, in a way, be metaphorically associated with a sense of the beginning. A strong light comes in from the east- flooding the valley below. This stunning piece of landscape photography stands out for the uniqueness of its approach.
GRANDEUR IN DECAY – MATTHIAS HAKER
Haker masterfully manipulates the texture and colours of this abandoned grand palace to give it the feeling of a photographic painting. Mossy green mould slowly creeps across the magnificent staircase as tired painting turns to ruin. At the heart of this image is a romantic sense of time and decay.
BATU CAVES BOY – YONG LIN TAN
In this stunningly composed shot of a boy is working in a steel and glass manufacture shop in Batu Caves, Malaysia, Lin uses the straight lines of the metal as perspectival arrows honing in on the boy. The young boy is almost lost amongst the sea of metal. Highly saturated, the photograph is conceived in black and white so to enhance the tones of the metal.
ABANDONED FARM – DARWIN WIGGETT
Images of dereliction are bread and butter for many photographers, it is the sense of timelessness and romanticism that we attach to them that makes them so powerful. Here, Darwin captures an old Candian truck buried within deep grasses. The industrial patina of the weathered and rusted truck contrasted perfectly with the yellows, greys and blues that colour the rest of the scene.
