PHALLIC SYMBOLISM - JOHNNY THORNTON

As John Thorton recounts, “I was invited to do another photographic demonstration in Spain as I had done with my 300 Voyeurs. This time I must say the result was nowhere near as good. I was staying in the Ritz Hotel that overlooks The Prado, where the pure scale and beauty of the Velazquez, Goya and Rubens paintings are staggering. My room looked out at an obelisk in the distance, which for me was extremely phallic, so I put the model in an erotic situation.”

A NIGHT IN LA - PAUL MELLIA

Having lived in California for a number of years, Paul became enamoured by all things Americana, especially the laid-back West Coast lifestyle which he spectacularly recreates with his paintings of classic cars and bikes.

DANNY BOY - PAUL SLATER

‘Danny Boy’ is entitled after the Irish anthem ‘Oh Danny Boy’. Painted with a green shirt, this young school sees him running with his hands raised as if he has scored a goal. Always one for the addition of small details, Paul wryly leaves a comb pocking out of his shorts.
